Smoke and Thermal Detectors
Fire is one of the most common and most devastating hazards a home or business can experience. With Signature Security Group you can rely on 24 hour monitoring of your premises against this hazard through system smoke and thermal detectors. Upon receipt of a signal, we can then notify both you and the fire brigade to eliminate or minimise the effects fire can have on your property.
Smoke Detectors become mandatory
From 1 November 2006 in NSW, it became an offence not to have smoke alarms installed in every storey of all homes and other shared accommodation buildings where people sleep. A maximum penalty of $550 applies. It is also an offence to interfere with or remove a smoke alarm unless for the purpose of maintenance or replacement.
NSW has joined Victoria and South Australia in making smoke alarms a legal requirement in all homes. QLD will apply the legislation by July 1st 2007.
The laws require smoke alarms in all places where people sleep, including houses, apartments, hostels and hotels.
You have the choice to purchase a low cost, battery run smoke detector that you can install yourself. However, you are therefore responsible for the ongoing checking and maintenance of this detector and the only way you will be alerted to smoke/fire will be via the detector itself. Alternatively you can have a smoke detector installed and linked to your monitored security system. Signature Security will then also be alerted should the detector be activated – this means an appropriate action plan can be carried out (as per the response plan for your burglar alarm). This greatly minimises the chances of a fire devastating your home or business and threatening your assets, family or staff.
Please remember an evacuation procedure, (particularly for families with small children), is also highly recommended. Families and Businesses should draw an escape plan, clearly identifying at least two alternative ways out of their premises. They should practice this procedure, agree on an assembly area and ensure everyone knows how to call for help should an emergency occur.

Unlike battery-powered detectors available in hardware stores, hardwired smoke detectors utilise a more advanced analytical system to detect invisible or visible smoke particles in the area in which they are located. These detectors are also monitored to ensure effective operation, so you never have to worry about failure. Signature Security Group offers two types of system smoke detectors. Firstly, an ionisation detector that reacts to gasses produced in the early stages of combustion. Secondly, a beam detector can be used to cover large areas that will signal when smoke obscures the light beam transmission to the receiver. Both of Signature Security's system smoke detectors are highly effective at detecting and signalling smoke at its earliest production.
Thermal Detectors
These detectors will create an alarm condition when the area reaches a pre-determined temperature. Two types of thermal detectors are available; fixed temperature detectors measure the surrounding air temperature, and rate-of-rise detectors monitor changes in temperature. Thermal detectors have been proven successful in assisting in the early detection of fires which in turn helps to minimise or eliminate damage and/or loss.
